Kyle Busch gives update on postseason surgery

Busch won the championship after missing the first 11 races of the season due to a compound fracture of his lower right leg and a fracture in his left foot. He suffered the injuries in the Xfinity Series’ season opener at Daytona International Speedway.“I’m trying to get them organized where I can get the doctors to do it on the same day,” said Busch, who doesn’t have a set date for either surgery.
“I think it might be the 14th or 15th,” Busch said. “When I get the foot surgery done, I haven’t heard exactly how long I’m supposed to be off of that, but the doctor made it seem as if once the plates and screws come out, I’ll be able to walk on it right away.“It’ll be to rehab to make sure that all the joints that have been immobilized for the last nine months, we get them kind of woken back up in a smooth fashion and break it in.”If both procedures are done at the same time, Busch won’t be walking right away.
Busch said his doctors advised he would likely be out of commision for about four weeks following the leg surgery. The procedure will be to remove the rod that was inserted after the Daytona crash.
“To cut the knee open again in order to pull the rod out, that’s going to be the most traumatic part,” Busch said.If done on the Dec. 14, Busch would have 63 days before the Sprint Unlimited at Daytona. Busch has raced at the 2.5-mile track since his accident. He finished 17th in July’s Coke Zero .
